Emily Haines is a Goddess. My first experience came about 10 years ago when I was dating a girl named Kristen. She adored Emily and we went and saw Emily Haines and the Soft Skeletons at 9:30 Club in November of that year. This was the Myspace days and I actually sent them a message asking that if I ordered something if they would sign it for her birthday. Within minutes I received a message back from the band simply asking for her name and address. What arrived was a box full of what seemed like one of everything in their store. All signed. And no money asked for. Needless to say, she was ecstatic on her birthday.
So now here we are, 10 years later. Metric playing Verizon Center in Washington,D.C. with Imagine Dragons and Halsey for the Smoke+Mirrors Tour. The stage and lighting setup was immaculate and HUGE. Appropriately, Metric began their set with “Stadium Love”. A true tribute to the fans that packed the home of the Washington Capitals for this concert. Over the next 8 songs, Metric really panned out the night, setting up perfectly for Imagine Dragons. It was hard to hear “Black Sheep” and not think of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Throughout the set, the essentials were all played. “Gold Guns Girls”, “Breathing Underwater” and finishing up with The Shade from their new upcoming album Pagans in Vegas. Overall, Emily Haines, James Shaw, Joshua Winstead and Joules Scott-Key overexerted all expectations I’ve had for the set AGAIN.
