The Sound of Animals Fighting. Circa Survive. Solo acts. And now full circle back to Saosin. Is there a bone in Anthony Greens body that doesn’t have to be so musically involved at all times? Crazy thing is, it’s all so amazing and different. Covering the Circa Survive Juturna ten-year tour back in October, I was so pumped that Saosin was back with Anthony Green and that they kicked off their tour right here in Maryland. I imagine that Anthony just kissed his wife and kids and just drove down from Doylestown,PA to kick off the tour.
The original lineup of Saosin consisted of Anthony Green (vocals), Beau Burchell (guitar), Justin Shekoski (guitar), Zach Kennedy (bass) and Pat Magrath (drums). All were present with the exception of Justin, who recently left the band and joined The Used after Quinns departure. Saosin has moved past this by adding Phil Sgrosso of Wovenwar to the current tour roster to fill in at lead guitar/backup vocals. It would have been nice for the full band to be back, but I’m sure Justin had his reasons and there didn’t seem to be any ill will about it.
This first date of the tour was special nonetheless. Just by opening with “Racing toward a red light”, we were already gifted with the first live performance of that song from their new album. We were also the first to hear the announcement of the new album Along the Shadow , first to hear “The Silver String” live which is climbing in views on Youtube and the first to hear that it was to be released on May 20th via Epitaph Records( It’s flipping awesome by the way, if that counts as an album review). All of the firsts! (neener neener everyone else)
Opening acts included Limbs and Young and Heartless. Both of which perfectly set the tone of the night and hyped up the crowd for Saosin. And no Saosin show is complete without an encore of “Seven Years”, a song that has meant so many different things to so many people. It’s still crazy how many lives Anthony Green has affected through his lyrics, his stage presence, that intense stare he does into the crowd where you can’t tell if he wants to strangle you or kiss you on the cheek, and even just how he conducts himself as a true human being. He focuses everything around his family, he goes out of his way to try to like as many posts he’s tagged in to let you know he’s a real person. You don’t see that level of humanity in most people these days. Saosin is back!
