2014 is slowly wrapping up as the year featuring more Golden Age hardcore 10-year anniversary tours than any other to date. Senses Fail’s LetItEnfoldYou (which has sold over 300,000 copies) holds a special place in the heart of many 20-something-year-olds as one of the main tent poles that really impacted the hardcore scene in the early 2000s. Now, at the 10 year milestone, the sounds of the album conjures up memories of dust swirling mosh pits at Warped Tour, surging crowds at Taste of Chaos, and countless small-venue shows where the walls can barely contain the overwhelming impact from the musical energy.
Hawthorne Theatre is a pretty small venue, so the bands had no problem permeating the whole building with that sweet hardcore vibe. No Bragging Rights’ set was nothing short of solid, and they were a perfect compliment to Senses Fail’s more polished than ever sound. The boys of Senses Fail sprung onto stage with full force with their leading song “Tie Her Down”. Their set is full on cover-to-cover goodness, and a few of their songs in the set received some revised breakdowns. The additions, changes, and tweaks flowed flawlessly into the pieces that gave the set a solid updated feel, without taking away from the true souls of the songs. The upbeat pulse continued all the way through their meaty middle songs. Senses Fail didn’t slow down a touch until their final note rang on “Martini Kiss”, and the crowd ate up every second of it. You can really tell that both the band and the audience enjoyed the company of the other.
Senses Fail’s career has lead them to tour all over North America and the UK with such names as The Used, My Chemical Romance, Killswitch Engage, New Found Glory, and Bleeding Through, just to name a few. And although there have been some changes to Senses Fail’s line-up over the years (founding member Dan Trapp left the band just this year after drumming for them for 12 years), the presence and impact of their shows still carry a bright, burning torch. The Let It Enfold You tour, with supporting acts No Bragging Rights and Knuckle Puck, is set to circumnavigate the U.S. starting in Hollywood, heading up the coast, tracing the northern border, tearing down the East coast, and wrapping up the tour along the southern reaches of The States to end up back in Southern California.
