Dont Blink Media is proud to announce a new weekly feature: #ThrowbackThursday.
Every Thursday, we’ll dig deep into the past and dust something off. We start #TBT with a classic: Jay-Z’s “The Blueprint“.
Released on September 11th, 2001 – the same day as the terrible attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon – “The Blueprint” could have been lost in the whirlwind of media coverage that rightfully focused on topics beyond music. Despite media attention being elsewhere, the album sold over 420,000 copies in its opening week, making it Jay-Z’s fourth consecutive album to reach number one on the Billboard 200 chart. “The Blueprint” would go on to sell more than 2,700,000 copies and become certified double platinum by the RIAA.
Reportedly written in 2 days, the album was recorded in a two-week span at New York City’s Manhattan Center Studios and Baseline Studios. While the album helped solidify Kanye West’s breakout as a major producer, it also features production from Timbaland, Just Blaze and Eminem.
“The Blueprint” contains the tracks as “Izzo (H.O.V.A.)” and “Takeover” (both produced by Kanye West). “Renegade” – produced by and featuring Eminem – is the only track on the album that features another rapper featured on verses.
