“Ænema” is the third single from Tool’s album of the same name. Released in 1996, the stop-motion video is this weeks #ThrowbackThursday choice.
The video was created by Adam Jones, who coincidentally also plays guitar for the band. Jones is responsible for the majority of Tool’s music videos. The video revolves around a humanoid figure with alien-like features, who ventures through an aquatic world. The creature seems to have a hose-like organ, which resembling an umbilical cord, protruding from its abdomen which squirts out water that fills the room the figure is standing in.
Jones’ studied study art and sculpture, and when his interest shifted to film, he started to learn the technique of stop-motion. He would later apply these techniques in Tool’s music videos, such as “Sober“, “Prison Sex“, “Stinkfist“, “Schism“, “Parabola” and “Vicarious“, and of course, “Ænema”.
